Yes. My LA Braces accepts Medi-Cal Dental for braces. If your child is under 21 and enrolled in Medi-Cal, Medi-Cal may pay for their braces when the bite problem is serious enough to qualify.
You don’t have to sort out the Medi-Cal paperwork on your own. Dr. Shahab Parsa, a board-certified orthodontist, examines your child and scores the bite. Our team then sends the approval request to Medi-Cal Dental for you.
My LA Braces has transformed more than 20,000 smiles since 1962. Call (323) 726-8300 or book a free consultation to find out if your child qualifies.
Does Medi-Cal cover braces?
Medi-Cal covers braces for patients under 21 when the bite problem is severe enough to be medically necessary. An orthodontist measures this with a score sheet called the HLD index. A score of 26 or more qualifies. A few severe conditions, such as a cleft palate, qualify without a score. Mild crowding or small gaps usually don’t.
Who qualifies for Medi-Cal braces?
Your child may qualify if:
- They’re enrolled in Medi-Cal with dental benefits
- They’re under 21
- Their permanent teeth have come in
- Any cavities or gum problems have been treated
- Their bite scores 26 or more on the HLD index, or they have a qualifying condition
Only an orthodontic exam can tell you for sure. That’s what the first visit is for.
How Medi-Cal braces work at My LA Braces
- Call (323) 726-8300 to book an exam. Bring your child’s Medi-Cal Benefits Identification Card (BIC).
- Dr. Parsa checks your child’s teeth and bite and fills out the HLD score sheet. Medi-Cal doesn’t require approval in advance for this first exam.
- If the score qualifies, we take the bite models and records Medi-Cal requires.
- We send the records and the approval request to Medi-Cal Dental.
- Once Medi-Cal approves the treatment plan, your child’s braces go on.
What if Medi-Cal says no?
Medi-Cal’s reviewers sometimes score a case lower than the treating orthodontist does. If you disagree with a denial, you can ask for a state hearing.
Your child can still get braces here. Our in-office payment plan charges no interest and needs no credit check. We also offer discounts for family members and for paying in full.
